Grand Finale!

Friends, it is over. Today I am sad and happy. Happy because I got 17 awesome songs! Sad because I can't get more... Thanks for checking out the site the last couple of weeks. To say thanks I have 5 free songs for the first 5 people to leave a comment and correctly list the 17 songs I got.

THANKS!!!

Song 17

This post is for Monday, August 29th. I chose another Kanye West song. "Gold Digger" features a sample from Ray Charles. I recently saw Ray (the movie) and I really liked it. I thought it was going to be slow and boring. It was very interesting and captivating.

Song 16

Either I am too picky with my music or iTunes doesn’t have a decent library. I think it is the former. It took me a while to pick a song for Saturday the 27th. I settled on a new Kanye West called “Gone”. This kid has superb beat makin skills. I love this beat and the flow ain’t too bad either. Enjoy

Song 15

This entry is for Friday the 28th. I just now settled on a song. First the story. I went into the Gap by my work. This is the one I have visited the most. This is also the one where the lady told me someday I would be a man and buy some jeans. I threw on some jeans and went to get me card. She was the only one not helping anyone so I went up to her. I was expecting her to finally call me out and ask me what I was up to. I thought for sure she would say something to me. Not a word. She didn't even recognize me. Dangit! I thought I was going to have something funny to write about. Not this time. I missed Saturday, so I will go twice tomorrow. Maybe something cool will happen.

I finally decided on "I Got It Made" by Special ED. This is an old school track with a very recognizable piano riff.

Song 14

After playing a ruff game of raquetball with the wifey, the whole family tried on some jeans. The kids loved the change room. Rage loved the lights behind the mirror. Tomorrow is his birthday so CELEBRATE!

I found this jem after an hour of searching. "Solid Ground" by Ms. John Soda.

Song 13

Yesterday (August 24t) I was too lazy to get a song. So today (August 25) I tried on 2 jeans to get 2 songs. As I slipped into the change room a dainty hand flopped over the top of the door. In between two lady fingers was an iTunes card. I didn't even have to try on the jeans (but I did) to get the song. The saleslady told me, "Here is your song!" Man was that easy.

I got a pretty dope song too. One of the best Emcees (KRS-One) rocks a dope beat ("Gunnen Em Down").

Song 12

Well, I have been outdone again. I wish this would happen to me.

According to Joe:

12 free songs, one pair of jeans tried on. That was the easy part, the hard part is trying not to waste the free songs on a musical whim. How did I do it you might ask... The answer is charm. Plus I was holding my baby who, without hyperbole, is the cutest baby of all time. We were in the dressing room for a while because my River had to eat and when we emerged, the Gap was closed and aside from the employees it was deserted. They told us to take our time, but we just wanted our songs. So I took back the two pairs of jeans my wife had tried on and the one I tried on and handed them to the sales girl and asked her how many free songs we got. She asked how many pairs of jeans we tried on. I tried to lie and tell her twenty or fifty, but my integrity punched my kidney and I said one. Then she saw River's puffy cheeks and oogled. Then she pulled out a whopping stack and said "How's this?" With a big smile on her face. I said "Sweeet." She squeezed River's cheek and unlocked the door and let us out. I wished her a good evening with all the sincerity of a audiophile with a pocket full of free songs.

Joe's first choice was "I Was Born (A Unicorn)" by The Unicorns

All I got was one song for one lousy pair of jeans.
Song = "Lucky Man"
Artist = "Lake & Palmer, Emerson"

Song 11 (I have been outdone)

From my brother:

After reading Milking iT(unes) entries, I was excited about the free Mp3s, but strangely, I was even more excited about feeling denim again.

I've been sitting in cotton slacks an awful lot lately and wanted to get back to my roots. So I was a little worried when the GAP at Fashion Valley was under construction. We decided to walk on over and get us some free music after making reservations at the ever-ridiculous Cheesecake Factory. We walked all that way, risking that the Cheesecake beeper might go out of range, past lots of horribly-dressed mannequins, only to find the store all plywooded up!

So I go into Baby Gap or Gap kids and a spiked-hair post/pre adolescent asks if he can help me. I explain that Gap for adults is closed, but that I want an mp3 and I am willing to try on kids pants if that's what it takes. It took a few repetitions to achieve understanding on his part. Then he said clearly, looking me in the eye, "Oh. Man, you're so dumb." "What?", I say. "Nothing. I'll get you one." He pulled out 2 cards and I made my way out.

I gave one to my awesome friend Nicole who just last week learned about iTunes and iPods. She chose "Edge of the Ocean" by Ivy. I chose "Game Shows Touch Our Lives" by the Mountain Goats.

My paling unearned song = "Don't You Want Me" by Human League

Song 10

Well, I found some dope pinstripe pants for only $15 and I got some jeans for $20. Are ya happy Gap? Your darn promotion paid off. Here I thought I was being clever, gettin frees songs. Nope, not only did I buy a pair of jeans, but some slacks as well! Fine, you win!!!

Song = "Tom's Diner" by Suzanne Vega

By the way my girlfriend has great taste in music. Check out "Take You Out Tonight" by the General Electriks

Song 9

Today I actually went into the Gap with the express intention of buying a pair of jeans (GASP!). I know, but before you turn your nose in disgust, I didn’t get any. My buddy told me he just bought a pair for $15. Jeans are jeans, and at that price I had to jump on it, especially since I need some new jeans. You know how if you put greasy food on a paper towel you can see through the towel? Well my favorite pair of jeans is like that now. Not because of greasy food like hamburgers, cookies, donuts, potato chips, brownies, brookies, fried chicken, and fried turkeys falling on my lap, but because they are simply worn out. I ran down to get some but they didn’t have any for $15 anymore. Dag! But I did get a cool song. I first heard Rogue Wave off of the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack. I really like that song ("Every Moment"), so thusly I got “Kicking the Heart Out” by aforementioned band. It is very enjoyable. The singer has a very relaxing voice and sounds better than Nick Lachey.

Song 8 + 1

As I stepped into change room I noticed an iTunes card on the bench. You guessed it. I got a bonus song!!! What a day. These two songs made me forget about the crappy basketball game I played today. I chose "Eple" by Royksopp. What can I say, I am a sucker for tha beatz. This is a great one that reminds me of DJ Premier's cuts on "Code of the Streets".

I let the Why-Fee pick out a song. She chose another Jason Mraz track. I am beginning to think that she has a crush on him. I might have one also after listening to "Curbside Prophet".

Song 7

I know I am a day late posting, but I did try on some jeans yesterday. I couldn't think of a song to get. Can you believe that? With the huge library that iTunes has I couldn't decide on a track. I finally picked one. Ugly Duckling is one of my most favoritest hip hop acts. They have dope beats (thanks to DJ Eintsein) and great lyrics. They rap about funny topics and don't take themselves too serious. Give them a listen and you will see that they soon won't be just the Opening Act.

Song 6

I have been going to the same Gap for a few days now. I am waiting for them to ban me, but they haven't. The jeans were lame. I tried on a pretty dope shirt, however 60 bones is too much. As I was leaving, I saw the chick that harrassed me a while ago across the store floor. She didn't see me and I hightailed it out of there. I don't know why I feel ashamed when I see her. Maybe because she is 1 foot taller than me and100 pounds heavier than me. Maybe, maybe...

Free Song = 311's "Don't Tread On Me"

Song 5

Gettin the song was cake tonight. The chick that is on to me wasn't there, so I cruised in and out with a free song in just a few minutes. Scott helped me out and he was the first to ask me if I got my free song after trying on a pair of pantaloons. Thanks Scott.

It took me a while to pick my song. I settled on "Grind Date" by De La Soul. It is a dope little number off of their most recent album entitled the same. I am really glad that I got it. It is such a great beat!

Song 4

We went and test drove minivans yesterday. In between the Honda Odyssey (which I don't like) and the Nissan Quest (better than the Odyssey, but not as good as the Toyota Sienna), I stopped by Gap to get my free song, I mean to try on some jeans.

I chose "Breakfast Club" off of DJ Z-Trip's first full length album. It is a cool number about Saturday morning cartoons and how they ruled our faces.

Song 3

After getting song 2 in the morning, I thought going back to the same store might be too much. So, in the evening my wife and I went to the Gap down the road. It was a fun little date and the missus got a song also.

I chose "Sun Versus Moon". MC Sage Francis describes a DJ battle between the Sun and the Moon in a cool way. See for yourself.

y-Fee selected a really cool acoustic guitar number by Jason Mraz called "I'm Yours". Not a bad little song.

Song 2

On Thursday we went to Mt. St. Helens so I wasn't able to go to the Gap. So today I went twice.

This morning, I went to the Gap next to my work. As soon as I walked in the lady that helped me the first day recognized me. As I strolled by with an indiscriminate pair of jeans she said to me, "Back again?" Dangit!!! She recognized me and I think she was on to me. I didn't care. I ran into the change room and slapped the jeans on. They didn't fit very well. I picked up a size 36 but they were too small. I thought I was losing weight. Maybe I am just getting more muscular. Anyway, I got my free song and started to split. As I was leaving, the saleslady said to me, "One of these days you are gonna be a man and buy a pair!" I responded, "Not bloody likely" with a smile and bounced.

Song 2 is by Kutmasta Kurt. I heard this beat a long time ago and wanted to get it on wax. Well it isn't pressed anymore so I got the next best thing, MP3. It is called "The Bay-Bronx Bridge". Take a listen and you will understand why I like it so much.

Song 1

Today is the first day of my adventure. I got the idea while taking a break from work and walking through the mall. I saw the ad in the Gap window and immediately went in. I randomly grabbed a pair of jeans, went to the dressing room, slapped them on and off, and then returned them to the saleslady. Our conversation went like this:

“How did they fit?” She asked
“They didn’t, too tight.” I said
“Would you like to try on another size?” She asked
“Nope.” I replied
“What about a different style?” She pressed
“Nope.” I said again

Then we stood looking at each other for about 5 seconds. I could tell she felt awkward. Then I asked, “Where is my free song?”

Today I got Cut Chemist’s Remix of Jem’s “They”.

It is an excellent song with a new and interesting break beat. Get it here.
